You can hide the close button by unchecking 'Display close button' option.

The size of the overlay menu icon can be set in the properties.
Note that menu items with sub items cannot have a link otherwise the 'click' cannot trigger the sub menus.

Maybe you have accidentally removed the file 'publish.dat' from your computer?
Normally this file should be in the folder: \Documents\WYSIWYG Web Builder\system\
If the file exist then make sure it's not read-only or in any other way protected.
