Publishing using hostgator

Post by Gritz248 » Wed Jul 12, 2017 10:03 pm

Hi....I switched servers and cannot figure out how to publish now. I use to have a remote folder to publish to, but they told me that I do not have a remote and it is published to the root public_html because it is the main domain name.

They told me that you don't put ftp.website.com that you put in an IP Address. I am confused....my website has been down for 3 weeks now and i would really like some direction. I know this is an easy thing for you all but I don't know much about migrating to a new server

Thank you in advance!!!!!!!

Only your webhost can tell you the exact publish setting.
So basically it just a matter of entering the settings they have provided.

Do not use WB's builtin publisher, it doesn't publish to hostgator for some reason. I downloaded winscp (free), and was able to login easily while WB's publisher failed miserably every time. Hope this helps.

That means that your settings are incorrect. WWB can publish to any host that supports FTP/SFTP. There are no known issues, otherwise they would have already been fixed.

Much easier and faster using Web Builder's integrated FTP facility, rather than a 3rd party FTP utility.

To augment Web Builder FTP support, Web Builder provides an additional FTP facility:
Secure FTP is a paid extension for $9.99
http://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/secureftp.html

HostGator suggests the following:
  • Toggle your computer's (or your FTP program's) firewall
  • Try connecting with Secure FTP
  • If your FTP program has a "Passive Mode", try toggling it off and on

Web Builder does support "Passive Mode", Try on and off, as HostGator suggests.

HostGator also suggests using Secure FTP. Purchase the Secure FTP facility and experiment with the Secure FTP Settings.

With the Secure FTP addon you can FTP your site to any host that supports FTP. There is no issue with Web Builder's FTP support, however it does not include Secure FTP support without the addon. The Secure FTP addon satisfies any SFTP issues you may have.
