You will need to publish them to Xampp as if you were publishing to a host/server or publish locally then into Xampp. The pages that use PHP must have the .php extension. Please note there is no help on the use of Xampp if using it is understood you know how to run php from it.

To preview PHP pages you will need to publish the pages to a web server. because browsers cannot display PHP directly.
If you run a local server then you will need to publish/preview/copy the pages to the server folder.

You cannot "Preview" PHP locally as it is a server requirement to run. You can publish locally then use Xampp to run all your files. See the following:
Publishing your web pages
Please note there is no support on Xampp or any of it settings as it is understood you will already know how to setup and use.

I'm assuming you know how to and have setup xampp correctly.
Create a folder in C:\xampp\htdocs and publish all to that folder.
Start xampp (from desktop shortcut or C:\xampp\xampp-control.exe).
In browser go to http://localhost/"folder"

Ok thanks for the explanations.
The preview works, but i must do the following steps:
1) public (entire site) on the localhost;
2) preview (full site) with "Remove PHP code during preview" unchecked, otherwise it will delete PHP pages;
3) now preview (full site) but with "Remove PHP code during preview" ticked, (now does'nt delete PHP pages).

Does it work, but is there a simpler method?

Thanks in advance, sorry for English.
Pasquale

The option "Remove PHP code during preview" only applies to preview and is not involved when you publish.
So just publish the site to the folder in C:\xampp\htdocs and in the browser go to http://localhost/"folder"
Just 2 steps required, publish then browse.

1) public (entire site) on the localhost
;
Correct, if you publish locally to (localhost) then you will be able to "Preview" in Xampp itself not in the software.
2) preview (full site) with "Remove PHP code during preview" unchecked, otherwise it will delete PHP pages;
Correct, this is because PHP only runs on a server it cannot run in a browser window alone. When you use "Remove PHP during preview" it is telling the browser there is no PHP so it displays.
3) now preview (full site) but with "Remove PHP code during preview" ticked, (now does'nt delete PHP pages).
Again correct, as mentioned many times you can only view PHP if it is on a server running PHP or if using a localhost/server such as Xampp.
Does it work, but is there a simpler method?
No, as already explained PHP is a server side script and requires to run in a server again if you wish to view locally you will need to install Xampp or something similar, it cannot run using WWB alone in a browser window. You are really making this harder for yourself either
1) You publish locally or upload to your hosting provider whic supports PHP to test/veiw.
2) Publish locally or to localhost folder bring the files into Xampp to view/test.
3) Once tested) viewed and you need to make changes the open WWB again make the changes and repeat 1) or 2)
