Submitted URL seems to be a Soft 404

Post by kevindef »

Hi there,

My form error page seems to be working fine up until now. Now I keep getting these 'Coverage issues detected' emails on all my hosted websites with this message from Google Search Console 'Submitted URL seems to be a Soft 404' - I have a dedicated 'Error Page' linked to my form submissions.

Any reason, tips, fixes?

Thanks

I need more information to be able to help you.
If it did work previously then what did you change? Or maybe your host has changed something?
What are your exact settings?
What is the URL of page?
What is the generated code?

Hi Pablo,

Please see my reply in response to your corresponding questions:

If it did work previously then what did you change? Or maybe your host has changed something?
I am using the same settings as my previous websites. Nothing has changed from my end or the host side. It could be that the Google algorithm has changed??

What are your exact settings?
I have got a screenshot of the settings but unable to insert here. Please advice alternative method.

What is the URL of page?

This is the Contact Form page link:
http://www.defranszdm.com/contact.php
This is the error page connected to that form:
http://www.defranszdm.com/error-contact.html

What is the generated code?
Not sure what you mean here.

What exactly do I need to to see the the error?

I have found the (unrelated) issues:
The name of the style is incorrect: 'D&S_Footer_Menus'. Please remove the '&'
Related FAQ: https://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/forum ... 10&t=64868

The name of the project is invalid: DUST&SPARKLE_Website, please remove the '&'

To add an image to your post:
- upload the image to your website or another public server.
- use the URL of the image in your post.

Hi Pablo,

Thanks for pointing our the unrelated issues connected to the wrong file name. I have fixed them up now, so all good there. I have also emailed you the the WB project file consisting of the Contact Page and related Error Page. I thought it will be easier to examine if there is any error in the form error page.

Thanks.

Please see if there's anything in the Form or the Error Page settings that is causing Google Search Console to send me 'Coverage issues detected' emails on my hosted websites with this message 'Submitted URL seems to be a Soft 404'

These websites were done using WB 14 and 15.

I'm sorry, I do not understand what Google means with 'Submitted URL seems to be a Soft 404'.
You will need to find out where Google get this error from, then I may be able to help you find a workaround.

There are two other issues. But I doubt they have anything to do with the error.
- there button does not have a name
- there is no success page.

Thanks Pablo, let me check that out and get back to you.

BTW: there is an Success Page assigned to the form - it's just that it's not in the project file I sent you. I also, named the button; thanks for that.
