Slide Down Box Menu (free)

Post by Adendum »

The Slide Down Box Menu is now available from the main extension site - here and also from my extension demo site. The help file is also available online from the same page.

This menu extension is a jQuery and CSS menu based on the original CODROPS code.

This version offers all the same features and benefits as originally coded but also allows you to customise several parts of the menu including a different drop down box size to the main menu, different colours or images for the drop down and/or fly out sections and the option to have more or less menu buttons.

PLEASE READ THE HELP FILE BEFORE REQUESTING SUPPORT.

Ed,

I think the easiest way for me to work out what is happening is if you send me your Tips_&_Tricks.html page as a project file (.wbs) together with your menu images. Save the current project with a new name, delete all the other pages, save again and then email me.

Drop me a line first using either my support form or main site contact form and I'll email you back with my email address as there is no PM system on the forum.

Ed,

When using Firefox and Firebug I can clearly see that the images have not been uploaded to the server.

And not that it will make any difference to this problem you should update the extension. Your version uses a link to the Google Ajax library for the jQuery file (my oversight). The updated version uses to WWB supplied jQuery. This wont fix the problem but just wanted to let you know.

The good news is [a] that there was nothing you did wrong and there is a 'fix' although maybe not ideal.

The bad news is I can't see where the problem is - but there is a problem. When specifying more than 5 menu items anything wider than 170px wide menu boxes breaks the extension. So the temporary fix is to make yours match the dimensions I have used in my version of your menu. And this requires you to re-size the images too. My version is set up, with re-sized images, to 170 wide and it all worked fine. Make the menu boxes 171 wide and it breaks?!?!? :?

I'll need to dig deeper to find out where and how this is happening but I'll report back if/when I find a solution. In the mean time you will have to work within the 6 times 170px wide constraints.

I spoke too soon.

Found the problem, a stray width setting in the CSS file! I have corrected this and updated the extension. Update 1.0.0.2 available via Tools>Extension Manager and/or my demo site.

@templar1973,

I just checked your page again and made the same change via Firebug and the menu does work!

However the way you have it set up makes the menu far too wide for your page design. At the moment you have 6 menu boxes with images at 200px wide. Therefore 6 x 200px is 1200px wide menu but your page design is only 921px wide.

So you really need to divide 921 by 6 and make your images and menu boxes 153px wide.....but if you had done that in the first place you wouldn't have discovered the problem...so thanks!! :)

If you do a local publish you will have a folder called /sdbm/ and another folder called /images/ and the same is true when you publish to the server.

The images for your menu should be manually moved to the /images/ folder.

If you have published to the server let me see a URL.

The Slide Down Box Menu is awesome!

Found a bug (reported also on your sites feedback form).

Here's what I found -

If you have more then 3 of the Fly Out menu items the HREF for the fly out link does not get populated in the generated HTML. This looks like it's a problem on you demos as well (I think demo 2 has menu items with more then 3 fly outs).

I forgot to post that I was trying this with version 1.0.0.0 and then saw a recent update to 1.0.0.2 and seems to have the same problem.

One quick question as well, is their a way to have the images move into the ./images directory so they don't have to be manually moved? I'm somewhat new to WB7 and the extensions, but would make things a bit cleaner for publishing.

Thanks for your excellent extension as well.

Sandy,

Well spotted! No idea why as yet but I can confirm that only the first three flyout links are being written. I'm on it now and will report back here and via your email. Thanks for the email by the way - the link to your site was useful.

As for the moving of images, sadly there is nothing I can do about that....as yet anyway. I've asked Pablo (the WWB author, owner, support guru and all round genius) to see if there is anything that can be done in the next version of the Extension Builder.

Just a simple typo can cause havoc!

The missing HREF codes were not being written in the 4th, 5th and 6th flyout links due to a spelling mistake in each of these. Now corrected and fully tested. My demo 2 has all 6 links in use to external websites.

I also added an extra option to allow you to choose between _self and _blank so that any linked items can open in the current/same window or you can elect to open in a new window.

Update 1.0.0.3 available from both locations.

10/11/11 : Having only realised I could do this yesterday (doh!) I have modified this extension (and all my extensions - see list below) so that the live rendering of the extension in design view is greatly improved. In many cases the design view will take on a background colour you set in the extension properties.

Updates available from the WWB extensions site and my own demo site. Remember to check out the extensions listed below.

Anything Slider

Elastic Thumbnail Menu
Image Information Panels
Image Swap Menu
Kick-Butt-Mega-Menu

22/02/12 : All image content now published to the /sdbm folder.

You may need to re-link any images if you open a project that uses an earlier version of this extension. Earlier versions of this extension required images to be manually moved to the /images folder. Now all images, css and .js files are all automatically published to the /sdbm folder.

The only way to have different versions of the extension in one site is to place the page in a separate folder - as I do with the demo site. Look at the URLs for the demo in your browser and you'll see what I am doing:-

/demo/SDBM1/sdbm1.html
/demo/SDBM2/sdbm2.html
/demo/SDBM3/sdbm3.html

Because when the extension/page is published all the CSS, .JS and images to run the extension go into a folder called /sdbm/ therefore if you publish two extensions in the same folder the second page will put all it's files in the same folder - overwriting the files from the first publish.

Just make a folder in your project, place the second page in that folder and publish. If you have three uses add another different folder - see my example above.

That generally means you have or have had an illegal version of WWB installed. You'll need to contact Pablo in Support to be able to fix that for you - assuming you now have a legal version.

Adendum great Menu thx mate, I had to adapt it to centre the text and below are the settings I used, any way to pop those in so I do not have to edit the code? its a bit of a chore on a large site :D

display:inline-block;

text-align: center;

margin-left from 15px to 0px

No idea if that possible but thought I would ask :)

Cheers

My version of this extension is 4.0 and refers to the google api, hence my version is having problems. I know there has been an update to fix this but cannot find it. Does anyone know where I can get the update for this extension. I am using WYSIWYG 11.5. I would really love to use this menu. Thanks in advance for the help.

The original developer of this extension no longer supports it and is not active in the forum. He has since passed all his extensions to another member who has taken them over but as of yet and as far as I know not released them yet under his support.

Hi,

The person that took all my extensions on is known as CJS in this forum. You'll need to contact him...

However, SDBM doesn't interact with Google and doesn't require an API.
