Text Box Shifting to the Left - Plus Extra Space

Post by clarkhowell » Sat May 13, 2017 2:40 pm

On this page I created a text box with a phone number in it - in LayoutGrid5.
http://www.howellmarketing.com/samhicks/contact_us.html

However, when I view the page in a browser, and make the image area smaller to about 700px wide, the phone number jumps to the left, and the smaller the image area gets the more blank "space" is added above the phone number.

Now, this leads me to believe it's something to do with page properties, because if I create a blank page and insert that same LayoutGrid5 into it, this does not happen.

I can't see what I'm doing wrong.

Can you make sure you set column horizontal alignment to 'Centre' at all break points ?

Hello - I'm not sure how to do that.... "at all breakpoints."

When looking at the LayoutGrid5 dialog box, the only breakpoint setting there is set to 480. But the "phone jumping to the left" seems to happen at around 700px wide. And the extra space above happens as soon as the browser starts to reduce in size.

Although I cannot see what you have done base on the HTML only, it looks like you have used different settings in the breakpoint.
The height of Line4 is 140px.
Also there is a second column in the layout grid which is hidden in the default view, but visible in the breakpoint.

OK, I see what you mean now. I actually forgot that I had created two breakpoints.

Can I ask you a general question about designing with Layout Grids?
Did I complicate matters by using breakpoints in a "responsive" design that ALSO used Layout Grids? Would Layout Grids alone have accomplished, basically, what I was looking for?

You should only add breakpoints if your layout 'asks' for it.
For example, if you want different columns counts.

Do you mean that in a large format browser viewing, like 1200px wide, I might want 6 columns in a Layout Grid, but when the browser is reduced to around 700px wide I might want to hide a column contained within that Layout Grid?

Is there a tutorial available that talks about that sort of designing?

Thanks,
Clark
