Open folder on harddrive in Windows Explorer

Post by KarlErik » Mon Nov 13, 2017 12:50 pm

Hi,

I'm creating a intranet page for my company - which is published.

I manage to open files, but not folders - I could do both before I published the page.

Is it possible to open a folder (in Windows Explorer) on the our local harddrive from a published page? Everyone in the office has access to the harddrive.

Help would be great, thanks!

/Karl Erik

You will have to specify the name of the folder in unix format:

Code: Select all

file:///d:/foldername/

Thanks for your quick response!

Unfortunately, it did not work for me ... is it not necessary to "mention" the server etc. in the path?

It has been a while and may be wrong but...something like the following...note this only works with IE as it is the only browser that support this.

Code: Select all

file://///server/path/to/your filedocument.doc
Please note this is not specific to the programme but server related.

From the intranet page, I need to open folders in Windows Explorer so I can see the list of files (in Windows Explorer) ... I manage to open files (PDFs, DOCs etc.).

Also; should I select Link To: "External Web Page" or something else?

Thanks!

Yes, and then specify the absolute path to the folder.

Thanks!

Could you please write an example for such a path?

From a published intranet page to a folder on a harddrive (f:\)?

Thanks again!

Thanks, but that didn't work for me either.

Do you have any other suggestions ... on how to open a folder on a local harddrive in Windows Explorer from an intranet page?

Note that this is standard HTML functionality so it should work, this has nothing to do with WWB.

What extacly did you use for the link?

file:///f:/analyse/

Everyone in my company has access to the f-drive, and it worked before I published the page (on my PC/user).

Is it not necessary to "mention" the intranett-url in the path?

PS! To protect the page, so it's only for emplyees, the intranet is behind Citrix.

If you type the link in the browser directly, does it work?

The link works in Chrome, not in Internet Explorer.

I tried to see the Intranet page in Chrome, but the link did not work there either.

file:///F:/analyse/
