Apple iPAD problem

Post by alex4orly » Wed Jan 10, 2018 12:28 am

I have several pages in this website designed the same way - here is one of them : http://www.beleuramyhome.org.au/ourtravels.html
It is based on a RWD with a Masterframe and each page several Layout grids
This eample above has a middle grid with 2 columns, the one on the right has a blog object, the one on the left is where the story is showing.

It works OK on my Windows desktop and works OK on an Apple desktop, but on an iPAD - the blog list flows down all the way, showing all the blog entries and is NOT containd within the Masterframe,

Any idea why? How can I fix that?

Cheers

The browser on the iPad (and iPhone) does not support scrolling in inline frames. Apple has intentionally disabled this because in their opinion there should not be multiple vertical scrollbars on the page.

Apple's opinion... Yes, I know about that.

What if I plug the Blog object directly into the Right hand side column Layout grid - avoiding the InlineFrame,
Will the grid hold the object and give the visitor a scrolling option?

On the iPad there will only be one scrollbar (of the page). All other elements with overflow->scroll will be displayed without a scrollbar.

OK, just "Discovered" a Flex-Box, will that work better?

I don't think flexbox has anything to do with your original problem.
Flexbox still does not allow you to have multiple scrollbars. It is an 'Apple limitation'.

You can use the list on any device, but not with a scrollbar.
If the list is variable then you can use layout grids, so the rest of the layout automatically adapts.

The blog list or another way to call it "content' as you mention in your first post!

Hello again Baconfries,
This is exactly what I have here : http://www.beleuramyhome.org.au/ourtravels.html
A layout grid with 2 columns, each column has an iFrame within it, the one on th eright hasa WB BLOG object
It works fine (The blog object stays within the boundries of the web page) on Windows and Android and on Apple Desktop
But the BLOG drops out of the frame on any iPad or iPhone - becasue as Pable said, IDevices refuse to show a scroll bar

So, I am looking for a suggestion of what to use instead

Cheers

My suggestion was to make the blog part of the page, instead of using an inline frame.

If you really want to use the inline frame then maybe this is useful?

I tried making the Blog object part of the page (placed into the Right column) but once it has in it more items then what fits in the original page height it start stretching the page downwards...
I will have a look at this link you provided.

Thanks again

I tried another idea... http://www.beleuramyhome.org.au/page5.html
In the right column of the Layout grid I inserted a HTML object with the following code in it:

<object data="http://www.beleuramyhome.org.au/videoblog.html" width="270" height="556">
<embed src="http://www.beleuramyhome.org.au/videoblog.html" width="270" height="556"> </embed>
</object>

Seems to work... kind of, with two problems
1) The scrollbar is going mad, but you can scroll with the middle wheel of the mouse, AND
2) It works only once - click any button and it will play the video inside the iFrame in the left hand side column, if you try to play another one, it jumps to a new page....

It is surprising that it works the first time, becasue - how does the external html page where is "InlineFrame1" which is part of the master page HTML5.HTML

Suggestions?

I'm sorry I am not familiar wit this code, so I cannot help you with this.
But I think the width and height properties are in pixels so this code is not responsive/flexible.
Also I am not sure why the tags are nested.
