I made the change from WYSIWYG 11 to 14 and have been disappointed from the start...
1. Nothing stays in place always jumps to the top... Text Boxes, Images, etc...
a. is a layer or grid needed

This is normal behavior for floating layouts.
If you use fixed layout (like in previous versions) then you can place objects anywhere you want.

By default, all objects have a fixed/absolute position/size. Unless they are inside a layout grid.
For example, most blocks use layout grids to make them flexible. See also the blocks tutorial.
