Apparently when I add a bookmark to a layergrid top(even a large one) it lmoves the layer content down to accommodate the size of the bookmark but it doesn't seem to affect the it once previewed or uploaded.
Is that correct?

Correct. A bookmark is not a visible element in HTML, but if it also was hidden in the workspace then you would not be able to edit it...

Keep in mind that the layout grid can be a bookmark on its own without having to add a bookmark object.
