Carousel as a full page website

Post by crispy68 »

I'm intrigued by using the carousel to create a full page website; however my concern is how it performs when you get down to a mobile size and if it's even realistic to use. Since the carousel fits the full screen of the device, what you see on the screen is what you get. This leaves very little room for any content unless I'm missing something.

I'm curious if anyone has successfully created a site that looks good from desktop down to mobile? If so, would you mind sharing a link to your site?

ibloo has rightly pointed out this:

Alternatively:
This by RZ

viewtopic.php?f=53&t=62831

Which is very powerful if used correctly.

Hey Zinc,

thanks for the links. I had forgotten about the 'apple' demo. Based on that, it is only useful for basically desktops/larger screens. The only way to use it for a whole website is you would need to do a re-direct for smaller screens to a mobile site. However, I feel this is no longer good practice to have separate sites.

It would be great if at some desired breakpoint the slides/container of the carousel, could be changed/repositioned height wise (similar to a floating layer) and no longer be restricted to full screen only, it would then allow for content to be positioned longer vertically.

Oh well....was hoping I could use it on a project I'm working on as the effect is cool.

You can still use the carousel for up to 768 BP and then hide it and do whatever you like for the mobile screen. I have just recently done the opposite of what you are asking :D and it seems to work. A bit of extra work but you should have the desired effect.

@Zinc,

Is the site you are speaking of live? if so, would you mind sharing a link?

Never thought about actually hiding the carousel in lower BP's. My only concern would be there would be duplicate content on the page for the same things. If there is a small amount of content in general it may not be too big of a deal but as of right now I'm not sure the total amount I will have which could end up being quite a bit which would make the page weight bigger than necessary. Still...food for thought. thanks.
