UK Pound Sign showing as £ when page uploaded

Post by Escapeww »

Hi,

I wonder if someone could point me in the right direction, just started to use WYSIWYG Web Builder (seems to be great!) but have one problem I can't seem to fix. When I enter a '£' sign it displays fine in the software but when the page is uploaded it's showing as £. If I insert it as a symbol it displays fine, but I really could do with being able to just type it.

Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance

Did you insert the symbol via 'Insert Symbol'?

Hi,

Yes when I click insert Symbol and select £ it displays fine, but when I just type a £ it seems to add the extra character?

Any ideas?

Many thanks

It may be related to the selected character set (in page properties) or font.

I have tried it on my computer via alt+0163 and that works correctly.

Also note that the font you use must be websafe.

As Pablo's reply, this is related to the character set you have selected in Page Properties->Language-Character Set. Ensure that it is set to Unicode (UTF-8).

Hi...thanks for everyones help.

The pages are set to Unicode (UTF-8), and I have tried various fonts, Arial, Times New Roman etc...pretty much all the web safe ones.

The problems goes away, i.e. I type £ on the keyboard and get £ uploaded when I change the page to ISO-8859-1 US/Western, but I'm not sure what the implications might be by changing all pages to this?

Many thanks

Darren
