Simple flex based template

Post by alan_sh »

The file (linked below) is a template for a simple flex based web site. It has no page based breakpoints so should be easy to maintain. It has the following features:

It has a master page for the menu, search and some buttons.
It has full search capabilities
It has a page with google maps that you can use/edit.
There's a few pages (About Us, Contact Us and What's On) each using the Master page.
It has a page called 'Copying' which uses the master page and has one layout grid. Use this (by cloning it) to create new pages - it saves a few steps.
The heading on the index page is a ready to use java script.
The flowers are cards in a card container.

Have fun - and feel free to ask questions about it.

Download it here https://www.dropbox.com/s/bh6v1comeokvy ... e.wtp?dl=1

Nice one Alan. I think your template will be big help to those getting started with flex grids and responsive sites in general. I have not seen use of a "copying" page before and it seems a good idea. I'll be giving it a go with a site of my own shortly.

Update: I can't alter the "website name..." text on the master page and after attempting to select the text the program freezes, either returning to the index page or crashes.

Are you editing the Master page to change the text "The name of your web site or something similar"? If not, then that is why you can't change it. I just tried it by installing the template on another system and it works for me.

As to the program freezing or crashing, I've not had that. Can you provide steps to reproduce it?

I created it using WWB 17.0.1. I haven't yet updated to 17.0.2

Yesterday the program crashed using WB17.1, so I updated to WB17.2 but problem persists. See this https://youtu.be/aJ8zh9yeEUk.

I can't reproduce that. However, I have seen similar when trying to select text in a tex box. On restart, it all works OK, though. I've never been able to consitently make it crash. I just assumed it was a memory overflow somewhere with the Microsoft component of WWB.

Thanks Alan!

- Why page width 1920 ?
- what do you mean with:
The heading on the index page is a ready to use java script.

1920 - just because I did. I don't think it makes any difference what you set.

Java script - no idea. I know that later on I put one on the header page which disables right click (to make it harder to download photos). But that doesn't seem to be on the template. Sorry for the confusion.

Will this template still snap to all device sizes? It's still a "responsive" site? My site needs to work on mobile devices. I can just replace the files paste my pics and text to the template and publish?

Yes, it should do.

Publish it 'as is' and see what happens when you use a mobile phone.

Alternatively, try connecting to www.penninescouts.org.uk which is based on that template.

Let me know if you see any issues.

The site you linked displays differently on my laptop as compared to my mobile. The mobile has fewer menu items on the top purple bar and the overall site is configured more vertically on the mobile as compared to laptop-- maybe that's intentional? Also, somehow I cannot alter the purple bar's color on the top of the page, how is that done?

Yes, the Pennine site is different on a mobile. That is intentional. All the menu items should be available, but just displayed differently. That is a function of the menu type.

The colour is set in the master page (as far as I remember).
