***SOLVED***old project won't open in any version

Post by dvoye »

One of my many projects just hangs when attempting to open in any version of WYSIWYG. All others open just fine which means my extensions should be in order. It is a simple site and I need to edit some simple things, but don't know any way I can access this website at all.
I even tried to import the files and that too hung the program.

Are you sure all extensions used by the project are on your system?
In 99.99% of the cases this problem is related to missing extensions.

The only other reason is that the file is corrupt.

The project is older and we have added several extensions to our versions. Could it be that the new extensions don't allow the simple old site to open?

No, unless the extensions have the same name as the old extensions but are in fact different. In that case there may be a conflict.

The only way i can help you with this is if you share your project file so I can see which extensions it needs.

But you can also look up the used extensions yourself by opening the project in an text editor like notepad.
Then search for "w b x" (note the spaces)
WARNING: do not save the project with notepad!

Thank you very much for your help. We have tried opening several different wbs files of this site which we saved over the years in many versions of our program. One extension we used (and still have installed) is Highslide. This extension is used and found in the wbs file for this site.
I would appreciate it if you could look at our file to see if we can make any further progress in using it at all.

PLease tell me how to share the wbs file with you.
Thanks, Doris

Please tell me how to share the wbs file with you.
1. Upload the file to your website or another public server
2. Share the link

If using any of the 'Highslide' extensions by myself you should note they are no longer supported or available to download. If it has maybe become corrupted then you may have to remove and find a alternative...

Thanks for your contribution. We continue to have other projects with this extension and they still open and use them ok. We don't introduce them into new sites though.

Re: old project won't open in any version

The problem is related to the images on the main page. There are several references to http://pcpaving.com/
However this website no longer exists, so the images cannot be loaded and it may take some time before the connection times out (depending on your system settings, because loading images from the Internet is system functionality).
Then the software will try to load the next image, which also does not exist.... etc etc.

Anyway I have updated your project and removed all references to the website.
https://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/suppo ... ng2014.zip

Also note that the project uses the 'Halo Text' extension.

WOW :D
Thank you so much.
Yes, the reason we needed to open it was because the clients' other website pcpaving.com was removed (by another person). We told our clients that we would quickly remove all the references to the missing images and we have been editing the raw html online!
So now we know that that old bad refs can make the wysiwyg file unusable.

I think we would be able to open a wbs in a text editor if we knew the culprits to delete!

We are now opening the revised file and will be able to continue our making it responsive as we had planned.

Again thank you for your wonderful help!

That is not entirely correct, because eventually the connection(s) will time out and the project will open.
Otherwise I would also not be able to open the project ...
I think we would be able to open a wbs in a text editor if we knew the culprits to delete!
That is not impossible. The project data is binary data.

As previously mentioned please ensure that you have installed all extensions in the "New" PC that you had installed in the older PC.

That doesn't solve my problem.
My computer crashes with a disk failure, so it was not possible to save files. The only thing i have is the wbs File, which i saved a few days before.

Did you also save the subdirectory related to to the wbs file (same name)? If not, that also may be why it crashes.

I downloaded the file, extracted it to a sub directory and clicked on 'Anita.wbs'. The site opened fine and I got a nice picture of a dog.

I can also open your project without any errors.
It does not use any extensions.

Maybe you are opening it the wrong way?
Did you use the 'File' menu?

Yes i use the file menu.

Is it possible that the problem comes from my installation directory ?
I installed the software on a second partition, where all my software applications are installed.

On my Win Server 2019, where i develop all my projects, i could not open the same project.

The licence is for 3 x PC / Laptops. Each one should have the same version v15.4.5 installed (or latest available). If you have for talking sake v15.1.0 on the Win Server then you will not be able to open v15.4.5 with it this is due to the structure (binary) is different. So please ensure that all machines are running the latest version and all if any extensions are also installed. Also sure that you are using either the 32bit or 64bit of the software on both machines.

@BaconFries
Thanks for clarification.
As you all could open my project without problems, i installed the latest v. 15 on my local computer, where i could open the project.
Then i deinstalled it on my Server, and installed the latest v. 15.... I can not open the project. As the new installationon my server is licensed without questioning, i assume, that the license file is stored in the registry and that`s the problem, why i could not open the project on the server. I think i have to clear the license information in order to get a fresh installation on my server, so that i could opnen the project in the same way, i could open it on my local machine. Am i right ?

You can clean the registry by deleting the following. Note you should always make a backup of the registry before doing anything.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Pablo Software Solutions\WYSIWYG Web Builder 16
Or in your case for Win Server v15
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Pablo Software Solutions\WYSIWYG Web Builder 15

On my local Win 10 Pro it works without a problem.

No, i'm not sure.
My local Laptop has Win 10 German, my server is an english version.
I did the installation on my local computer only for testing.
As i use the webbuilder with MySQL, and i don't want to install all the stuff on my local computer, it should work on my server.

By the way, my old server who crashes, was with 2016 version.
Is it possible that the activation of this server is stored in a databse on your side.

Are you sure you are opening the correct file (wbs)?
Are both versions 64bits?

It should not be this difficult to make it work. There must be a difference somewhere.
But it is difficult to help you without all the details about your computers, settings etc.

As Pablo's question what bit version of WB do you have installed 32bit or 64bit. Also have you installed all relevant extensions?
