I'm pretty sure before you couldn't add margin to the right or left on a layout grid. Only top and bottom. You would need to adjust the gutter or add padding inside the columns.

You never stated a problem to begin with other than you can't set right or left margins. Adding gutter will give you spacing on the right and left side of the grid. You can also set left padding in the first column and right padding in the last column to create space from the sides.No, your method does not solve my problem,
