Uploaded WYSIWYG changes do not appear when I download website

Post by Curt »

Today I attempted my usual daily updates to my website www.CurtRenz.com through WYSIWYG through my webhost Jumpline. This failed. I rebooted my computer and made several attempts to update Still my website only displays what was there yesterday. What might have caused the problem? How can it be fixed?

Did you try to Hard Refresh the page? Maybe you're looking at a locally stored version? It's Ctrl+F5 in the browser on the page.

Maybe your browser displays the previous version from cache?
Did you clear your browser's cache?

or else what changes should we see on the page?
Are there any errors in the publish log?
Did you publish all files?

Note: there is an error in the page 'description' This section should not contain quotes, this breaks the HTML.

Also, are you sure you are uploading to the correct folder? You should be able to easily log into your host and thru cpanel open your folder where the files are at (file manager) and see if the dates on the pages are today's date.

I rebooted my computer twice. I cleared the Chrome cache several times through "more tools - clear browsing data - clear cached images and files" . I tried control F5. I performed the updates several times, to no avail.

I tried to update three of my astronomy pages for today's celestial events. WYSIWYG reports "Successfully published!" But the changes are not found when I download my website.

On my website's front page I attempted to add a period after the word "transitory" in my comments. WYSIWYG reports "Successfully published!" The added period is not seen when I download www.CurtRenz.com .

I now checked the cPanel File Manager. For the items I attempted to change today, yesterday's date at midday is displayed.

Did you check other folders on your server to see if you published to one of these folders by mistake?

The most recent date seen in the cPanel File Manager report is "Yesterday". When I upload today through WYIWYG, it is obvious that I am uploading the desired page.

Great thanks to everyone attempting to help.

I've also contacted my webhost Jumpline. The chat agent said he will escalate the ticket to an administrator, and I should hear from an administrator within 24 to 48 hours.

Below is the latest response from my webhost Jumpline". I've re-downloaded the latest WYSIWYG program. That did not help. What can be done?

Sorry, as we do not provide web development support we cannot help you with this issue. Please contact your web developer for making any changes to the website

Can you provide a copy of your publish log - you can view the log by going to Tools->Options->Publish->View Log. It may cover several publishing attempts so go to the end and copy just the latest one that you published.

Something that I have been guilty of is marking the page with 'Do Not Publish' and forgetting that I have done so - have you fallen into the same trap?

None of my pages are marked "don't publish".

Here is the end of that log:

To be able to help, I need more information.

For example, what are your settings?
What information is in the publish log? I need the complete log.
Did you change something in your settings? or did you install a new firewall or other software?

When did it stop working? Did you change something in your setting? or did you install a new firewall or other software?
I should note that my domain https://www.CurtRenz.com has an SSL certificate.

Uploads were working fine through Wednesday than failed on Thursday.

I did not change settings yesterday, or install a new firewall or software. However, after the problem occurred, I re-downloaded and installed the latest 64-bit WYSIWYG 16.3.2. I had previously installed that same update earlier this month. Oddly, I have to turn off the Windows "Controlled folder access" before installing your program.

Yesterday my webhost Jumpline said that my memory usage in the server had grown too high. I removed unneeded items in the cPanel including movies from a movie maker that should have had nothing to do with my website. They said the plan was to empty my website on their server, and they would let me me know when upload the entire website. I gave them their requested permission. Then this morning Jumpline said the fault is with my web developer, i.e you.

My previous website program was Serif WebPlus. When I uploaded with that, I always accepted the choice to delete unused files. I wish there were a similar choice in WYSIWYG.

In any event, today I was clicking the WYSIWYG "Publish Web Site" settings in an attempt to see if I could fix anything. Apparently I should not have clicked "Delete", but did. I then spent an hour with a Jumpline chat agent trying to get the correct settings. I did not tell him about yesterday's problem, so as not to confuse him. He gave me some settings, but clicking "Test" led to error reports. He said a technician would get back to me within 48 hours.

He seemed uncertain about the settings he gave me. Perhaps you can give me better advice for settings, particularly in the "Type" section, what should be the choice?. Also should I list my domain in that question window as http or https?

The full log is massive in a Notepad file. Is there a way to send it to you? Below are the last from June 17, the first from June 18, and the last from June 18. The last was from after I goofed up the WYSIWYG box for "Publish Web Site", the other log data was before that.

Yes, yesterday I noticed that. I was hoping to fix it and add a period when the inability to upload first occurred.

Reading what you have posted of the log you have the following error below this indicates that you have no space left or limited and not enough to upload. As this is a server issue and not with the program as your host has tried to make out you can either delete unused files or get your host to increase the space you have so to resolve

All is well. I can now upload my website.

I cleared out much extraneous material in my website's section of my webhost's server, which got me well under the memory space limit.

They apologized for erroneously blaming WYSIWYG.

Until a year ago, my website software was Serif's WebPlus. Whenever a full upload was performed, the default option was to also delete unused files. Apparently without this option on WYSIWYG, obsolescent files kept building up. It would be nice if we had this option with WYSIWYG.

WYSIWYG intentionally does not remove files from the server because there is no way to know if these files are still in use.
For example, the files may have been placed there my the web host, a third party script or an extension.
Many extensions have additional configuration files that WWB does not know about. If the software would remove unknown files then this could break functionality.
