Version 16 Will Not Start

Post by faithfulfox »

Version 16 flashes the Logo Screen and then will not load or start.
I have had it start before but it never worked right for me. This is a new install after being completely uninstalled.
Version 15 works fine.
WN 10 with all upgrades.

Maybe your firewall or virus-scanner blocks the software?

- check the log of your firewall / virus-scannerand make sure it has permissions
- check the Windows event log for errors
- make sure the software has permissionsto access the 'system' folder: Documents\WYSIWYG Web Builder\system\

It looks like you are not using the latest version.
Did you also try version 16.4.1?

I upgraded to the new version that was released Friday.
Here is the actual ERROR File from the start following that installation. I uninstalled the previous version before the installation.

It works for everyone else (as far as I know). So what is special about your PC? Have you tried it on a different one? Have you tried disabling all security to see if that works and then add things back until it fails?

Are you trying to open the program from the start menu or are you double clicking on an existing .wbs file?

I do not doubt your questioning that Windows could be the problem. But if it is, I would like to find the problem and fix it.
It did open from the time it was introduced for many months after, but some of the main functions would crash the program. Like modifying and objects properties.
Version 15 still works fine.

I am opening it from a shortcut on the Desktop or from the start menu.

I have now tried these again:

I turned off Windows Defender completely
I tried the 32 bit version
I tried installing it on G: Drive

Again, Version 15 works fine.

So, I know nothing else to do. While I have a high-powered computer, I am considering getting another one when Windows 11 comes out. It is probably Windows causing the problem but to do a total reinstall at this time would be too much work. I will wait for WN 11
Thanks for your help.

Hi faithfulfox,

try to uninstall all installed Versions of " Visual C++ Redistributable ", then uninstall Webbuilder 16 and reinstall Webbuilder 16.

Finally! I deleted the registry key of v16 and reinstalled and it ran as expected.
Thanks for your help.

I will let you know if all the functions are working this time.

When I tried to open a simple menu - like "Page Properties" it crashed.
Then it would not restart. Rebooted the system but no help.
I presume if I delete the registry key and reinstall it will work...
but only until I open a menu.

This is discouraging becasue I paid for this a year ago and have not been able to use it.
Again, Version 15 continues to work fine.

Update: I repeated the same process with he same results. After it crashes it will not restart.

Which Windows version do you use - Windows 7 or Windows 10 ?
Which Windows edition do you use - Windows 32bit or Windows 64bit ?
Do you use the corresponding Webbuilder edition - Webbuilder 32bit or Webbuilder 64bit ?
Have you ever installed a wrong Webbuilder edition not appropriate to your Windows version - e. g. Webbuilder 32bit on a Windows 64bit system or vice versa ?

Did you uninstall Webbuilder just by deleting the the files on the hard drive ?
How to uninstall a program in Windows 7
How to uninstall a program in Windows 10

Again:
Try to uninstall all installed Versions of " Visual C++ Redistributable ", then uninstall Webbuilder 16 and reinstall Webbuilder 16 in the correspondig edition of you Windows version - Webbuilder 32bit or Webbuilder 64bit

There are no known issues with version 16 otherwise these issues would have already been fixed.
This behvaior has never been reported before.
Do you have another computer you can try it on so we can be sure this is not an issues of your computer only?

Also, please read the tips form other users (and answer if possible), otherwise I do know if you have tried all suggestions.
