Advanced "site search" extension

Post by supersonictt »

Hello all,

I am trying to find an advanced "site search" extension or script. I googled it and I found some sites describing the techniques.
I also found an extension called "site search", it does the job, but while navigating the forum for other stuff, I found the sites made by Adendum, they contain a really nice and advanced site search engine.
Well, it seems that the only extension available is "site search", but could someone please direct me to a free script that does what the search engines in sites made by Adendum does?

Thank you.

If I remember correctly a topic regarding the Site Search Extension (Google) in WB Extensions was brought up and how it was now not working as it did in the past. The reason for this was now Google are asking you to sign up for a API key, and also requiring payment for use of advanced features. Adendum commented that he was using a older version of the Google script and that it was still working so this may be the search you mention used on his sites. There are many free search scripts out there that can easily be inserted into WB without the need for a extension, there are many that have a price this is just life. I do have a search script/extension never released, as I never had the time to test, as it was never required in any site I make with WB you can test it if you like, but as i dont want to release without testing I can only provide it if you have a email you can give.... I will leave this up to you if you wish to test... I could also contact support and ask for your email only with your permission would I do this

BaconFries,

Thanks a lot for your reply.
Well, regarding Google search, you are right, it doesn't work any more when you use it to search within your website, and they require a payment as you mentioned,
The site search extension I mentioned created by Tessel
viewtopic.php?t=33035
The extension does the job as I mentioned before, but I guess the ones Adendum uses are more professional.
I guess Adendum uses Zoom Search Engine program (just a guess).

I would like to try the script you have. I don't know if I am allowed to post my email address here, so please let me know the best way to provide you with my email address.

Thanks a lot.

Correct. I use Zoom Search from Wrensoft but that's because my previous HTML generator didn't have any site search facilities so I bought the Pro licence for Zoom many years ago. I've not tried the WWB site search yet and so far I've not had a site that warranted a site search so I haven't used Zoom in WWB either.
Aditerum - No longer supporting WWB extensions - refer to CJS.
Aditerum - No longer supporting WWB templates - refer to CJS.

WWB 9.4; Ext Builder 4.2; Windows 10 64bit; Intel Core i7-3770 Processor 3.40Ghz; 16.0Gb RAM

Adendum,

Thanks a lot for your email informing me what search engine you use.

I tried Zoom search and it is working fine (the demo version), but I needed some other customizations so that would be only available in the Pro version.

The script BaconFries sent me is great (it is an extension actually), but the one who made this extension forgot to include the required php file. Do I downloaded the whole script (I didn't know it is available for download) and tried it. I followed the instruction well, and I tried it, but the problem is that it is indexing the home page ONLY, so I contacted the creator of the script and am still waiting for his reply.

Thank you all for helping me out with this thing, I really appreciate it.

For what it is worth, I use Zoom Search engine pro version as well. I really like it because it allows you to include documents in the search. So if you have pdf downloads for example, those pdf files and their content can be included in the search. You can choose which documents type, if any, that you wish to include in searches. It is extremely sophisticated, yet the interface makes it easy to use. It does have a license fee though, but on 1 computer you can use it on as many websites as you wish.

@ protetourlands
You are right, zoom search is very customizable, but as you mentioned it requires a license to upgrade to the pro version.

@ BaconFries
Thanks for the explanation, I sent you an email describing everything. Please do not bother if you are busy or something, I might figure out where the problem is :)

Thanks all for helping out :)
